WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Andrew Kabacy (Jr., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) of Willamette University outlasted Andreas Immergluck-Mueller in a super tie-breaker at #1 singles, but Whitman College defeated the Bearcats, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday, March 6. Immergluck-Mueller won the first set, 6-0, but Kabacy rallied to take the second set, 6-3. In the super tie-breaker, Kabacy downed Immergluck-Mueller, 10-5. Whitman improved to 2-0 on the season and to 2-0 in the NWC. Willamette moved to 0-1 overall, 0-1 in the NWC.
Immergluck-Mueller combined with Jack Freer to win #1 doubles over Kabacy and Gene Perle-Jones (Sr., Eugene, OR/North Eugene HS), 8-3. At #2 doubles, Thomas Chang and Bear Lee of Whitman defeated Quentin Nigbur (So., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) and Andrew Kropp (So., Bend, OR/Summit HS) of Willamette, 8-3. In the #3 doubles match, Whitman's team of Eric Lim and Jasraj Sethi won 8-0 over Luke Hiserman (Sr., Monterey, CA/Pacific Grove HS) and Jordan Megiveron (So., Edmonds, WA/Edmonds-Woodway HS).
Chang and Perle-Jones battled throughout the first set at #2 singles before Chang claimed a 7-5, 6-1 victory. Also winning singles matches for Whitman were Freer at #3, Lee at #4, Sethi at #5, and Lim at #6.
The Bearcats and the Blues will play again on Sunday, March 7. The action is set to begin at 9 a.m. (PST).
