WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- For the second consecutive day, Andrew Kabacy (Jr., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) of Willamette University defeated a Whitman College player at #1 singles, but the Bearcats lost to the Blues, 7-2, on Sunday, March 7 at the Whitman Outdoor Courts. On Saturday, Kabacy downed Andreas Immergluck-Mueller in a super tie-breaker. On Sunday, Kabacy held off Adam Schutter of Whitman in a three-set match, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Kabacy and Gene Perle-Jones also won at #1 doubles in Sunday's non-conference match. They downed Schutter and Aaron Yuan in a tie-breaker, 8-7 (9-7). Whitman gained a 2-1 lead during doubles, as Bear Lee and Jack Freer defeated Quentin Nigbur (So., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) and Andrew Kropp (So., Bend, OR/Summit HS) at #2 doubles, 8-1, and Matt Biggi and Eric Lim moved past Luke Hiserman (Sr., Monterey, CA/Pacific Grove HS) and Jordan Megiveron (So., Edmonds, WA/Edmonds-Woodway HS), 8-0.
Whitman was victorious at the #2 through #6 singles positions. Freer won #2 singles against Perle-Jones, 6-3, 6-2. Lee defeated Nigbur at #3 singles, 6-3, -61. Biggi downed Hiserman at #4 singles, 6-0, 6-4. Other wins for the Blues in singles were earned by Lim at #5 and Yuan at #6.
The Bearcats will host Linfield University in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday, March 13. Action will begin at 11 a.m. (PST) if the weather allows the match to be played at the WU Tennis Courts.
