NEWBERG, Ore. -- Jordan Megiveron (So., Edmonds, WA/Edmonds-Woodway HS) from Willamette University prevailed in a close match at #6 singles against Noah Miyamura of George Fox University, but the Bruins won the team match, 8-1, on Sunday, April 11. With the non-conference victory, GFU upped its record to 6-4 on the season, while Willamette fell to 0-10.
Megiveron held off Miyamura in both sets to win for the Bearcats, 7-5, 6-4. Hunter Fujimora of GFU won a similar battle at #2 singles, as he outscored Willamette's Gene Perle-Jones (Sr., Eugene, OR/North Eugene HS), 7-5, 6-3.
George Fox defeated Willamette in the remaining singles matches with victories by Luke Lemaitre at #1, Camden Camacho at #3, Alle Banna at #4, and Sam Watt at #5. The Bruins swept the doubles competition, including an 8-2 win by Fujimori and Camacho at #2 doubles against Andrew Kabacy (Jr., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) and Andrew Kropp (So., Bend, OR/Summit HS). Lemaitre and Will Leach triumphed at #1 doubles. Banna and Watt won #3 doubles.
Willamette is scheduled to play at the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, April 24. The action is slated to begin at 12 p.m. (PDT).
