Four Bearcats are Named Academic All-District in Men's Tennis

SALEM, Ore. -- Four Willamette University men's tennis players have been named to the 2022-23 NCAA Division III Academic All-District Men's Tennis Team, as determined by the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA). Willamette's Academic All-District selections were Trey Allen (So., Tucson, AZ/BASIS Tucson North HS), Andrew Kropp (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS), Andre Lief (So., Anchorage, AK/West Anchorage HS), and Quentin Nigbur (Sr., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS).

All players named Academic All-District are eligible to be chosen for the College Sports Communicators NCAA Division III Academic All-America Team. Players nominated for the CSC All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative grade point averages of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Each nominated student-athlete was at their current college or university for at least one academic year.

The Willamette men's tennis team was led by Director of Tennis Tyler Linscott in his first season with the Bearcats. Willamette ended the 2022-23 season with a 0-13 overall record and a 1-7 record in the NWC. The Bearcats won at least two matches in six dual meets, including five consecutive wins at #1 singles and #1 doubles between March 11 and April 2.

NCAA Division III Academic All-District

Headshot of Trey Allen Trey Allen (So.) played in singles during 12 of Willamette's 13 dual matches this season. Eight of his matches were at #5 singles. He has seen action in 22 singles matches in two years at Willamette, including nine at #4 singles in 2021-22.

As a first-year player, he also competed in doubles in 2021-22. Seven of his doubles matches were at the #3 position.

Allen is majoring in both Physics and Computer Science. He owned a 3.93 grade point average through the 2022 fall semester.

Headshot of Andrew Kropp Andrew Kropp (Sr.) competed in singles and doubles for the Bearcats in all 13 dual matches this season. He layed 12 of his singles matches at the #4 position and played all 13 doubles matches at the #2 position.

In his career, Kropp has participated in 40 singles matches and 42 doubles matches in dual meets, including 37 singles matches and 37 doubles matches since the start of the 2020-21 season. Willamette's season was cut short by COVID-19 in 2019-20.

Kropp has achieved a 3.64 cumulative GPA at Willamette. He is an Economics major and is completing his fourth year in the 3+2 BA/MBA program.

 

Headshot of Andre Lief Andre Lief (So.) saw action in 12 singles matches and 13 doubles matches during WU's dual match season this year. He played eight matches at #6 singles and competed in all 13 of his doubles matches at the #3 position. He played eight matches at #3 singles in 2021-22.

At Willamette, Lief has played in 23 singles matches to go along with 23 doubles matches for the Bearcats. He earned a 3.89 cumulative GPA through the fall semester and is majoring in Economics with a minor in Spanish.

Headshot of Quentin Nigbur Quentin Nigbur (Jr.) played singles and doubles in all 13 of Willamette's dual matches this season. Eleven of his singles matches were at the #3 position, while eight of his doubles matches were at the #2 position.

During four years at Willamette, Nigbur has been involved in 39 singles matches and 40 doubles matches in dual meets for the Bearcats. In singles action, 25 of his matches have been at the #3 position. He has competed in 22 matches at #2 doubles and in 18 matches at #1 doubles.

Nigbur held a 3.63 cumulative GPA through the fall semester. He is majoring in Economics and is in the fourth year of the 3+2 BA/MBA program.
