McMinnville, Ore. – Willamette Men's Tennis played its final match of the season at Linfield on Sunday, winning a match at #1 Doubles and coming close in several others, before losing the team match to the Wildcats 7-0.
The Bearcats played well in doubles and the team of Hudson Snyder and Zack Olander secured a crucial win at the No. 1 position, edging out Linfield's Stone/Lerfald 7-6(7-2) in a thrilling tiebreaker. Unfortunately, the Wildcats won the other two doubles matches 6-3 to earn the single point heading to singles.
In singles play, the Wildcats won all six matches to make the final score 7-0. AJ Avansino was locked in a tough battle with Brooks Lerfald in their opening set but eventually lost his match 7-5, 6-1. Playing his final collegiate match, Andre Lief put up a fight at #4 Singles before falling 6-2, 6-3.
This was the final match of the season for the Men's Tennis team, who went winless in conference play during the year. Willamette did open their spring season with a 4-3 win over Bellevue College in an exhibition match, but that does not count toward their overall record.
