Watilo Chosen NWC Softball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week

Earns 5-0 Record for Bearcats

SALEM, ORE. - Alex Watilo (Sr., RHP, Newcastle, CA/Del Oro HS) of Willamette University has been selected at the Northwest Conference Softball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts during the week of March 21-27. Watilo achieved a 5-0 record during the week, while pitching in six games for a total of 31 innings.

Watilo threw complete-game shutouts against three opponents, helping WU defeat Whittier College, 8-0 on the run rule in six innings, down the University of La Verne, 2-0, and roll past the University of Puget Sound, 8-0 on the run rule in five innings. She also earned a second win against Puget Sound and recorded a victory over Pomona-Pitzer.

She pitched 19 2/3 innings in just over 24 during a three-game stretch on March 22-23.

During the week, Watilo achieved a 1.35 earned run average while allowing just six runs. She recorded a total of 11 strikeouts. She tossed a one-hitter versus Whittier, a two-hitter in the run-rule win over Puget Sound and a four-hitter against La Verne.

Watilo has an 8-2 overall record this season. She has registered 24 strikeouts in 65 1/2 innings pitched.

The Bearcats will play again on Thursday, March 31, with a doubleheader of make-up games at George Fox University in Newberg, Ore. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. (PDT).
