SALEM, Ore. -- The second Northwest Conference softball doubleheader between Willamette University and Linfield College, originally scheduled for March 5, will be made up on Tuesday, April 11 at the WU Softball Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. (PDT). The teams initially planned to make up the doubleheader on Wednesday, April 12, but will now play a day earlier.
Linfield and Willamette have already made up two games rained out on March 4. Those games were played last week on April 5, with Linfield winning 7-0 and 10-4.
This past weekend, the Bearcats split a four-game series against George Fox. On Saturday, GFU won the first game, 3-0, before Willamette took the second game, 10-2 on the run rule in six innings. On Sunday, the Bruins opened with a 7-2 win. The Bearcats won the second game, 5-4, on a walk-off double by Taiana Creekmur (Fr., C, Honolulu, HI/St. Francis HS) with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Willamette is 13-15 overall and 11-11 in the NWC. Linfield, which is ranked 18th in the NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll released by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), owns a 28-6 record, including 17-5 in the NWC.
Mallory Asaro (Sr., SS, Rocklin, CA/Rocklin HS) leads Willamette with a .415 bating average. She also ranks first for the Bearcats with 22 RBIs and 10 doubles. She is tied for first with four home runs. Jocelyn Glasgo (Fr., P/DP, Rochester, WA/Tumwater HS) is hitting .410. The Bearcats are 60 of 74 on stolen bases.
Reanna Lancaster (So., P, Los Altos, CA/Mountain View HS) tops the WU pitching staff with a 1.83 earned run average. She has recorded 24 strikeouts in 30 2/3 innings. Lancaster has held opponents to a .235 batting average.
