What was your most memorable moment throughout your career at Willamette?
My most memorable moment was definitely my time studying abroad in Spain. Not many athletic programs allow athletes the ability to study abroad. My time in Spain was unforgettable, and I am so thankful to be a part of a family that helps me pursue experiences and life-changing memories!
Describe your feelings when you found out the season was canceled.
When I first found out the season was canceled, all I felt was denial. I didn't think sports would really be canceled indefinitely. Sports? canceled? No, never. Knowing all the hours put in to make it to my senior season and working with the best group of girls, it didn't seem possible that things could be shut down so easily. After accepting the fact that softball was actually over, my heart was broken. It felt like I had lost a part of me, and knowing I will never get it back hurt the worst.
How have you been handling life in quarantine? Are you home or on campus? What's it like learning online and not having practice?
I have been in Salem, living with some of my teammates in a house off campus. Life in quarantine is hard. Not seeing friends nor having the freedom to visit them is heartbreaking, especially considering these may have been that last few months I will get to spend with them. Online school is tough ... just being honest. And not having a designated three hours out of my day to spend outside is even worse! I've learned just how much I love the outdoors during shelter in place, as well as how much I dislike sitting in a chair staring at a computer screen.
What has your experience as a Bearcat taught you?
My experience as a Bearcat has taught me just how strong and resilient I am. In the past four years, I have pushed myself to new heights with my studies and softball, and have taken on challenges that I would have shied away from before college. I have learned a lot about myself and my capabilities.
If you could leave one piece of advice for future Bearcats, what would it be?
Don't be afraid to try new and challenging things! Pushing yourself to new heights and striving for something new will teach you so much about yourself. And there is no better place to take risks than a place like Willamette, where you are surrounded with leaders, teachers, and mentors to help get you there.
What are your future plans following graduation?
I am taking the following year off to work and plan my wedding with my fiance! I will then be pursuing an education in massage therapy the following year.
