Davis Earns Both Wins as Bearcats Shut Out Pacific Lutheran 5-0 and 1-0

Salem, Ore. - Kenna Davis earned both wins of the doubleheader with Pacific Lutheran, throwing a complete game two-hitter in a 5-0 game one victory and pitching three innings of scoreless relief as Willamette won game two 1-0 in nine innings.  Faith Collar had three hits on the afternoon and Emma Elliott had the game-winning RBI in game two.

Willamette took an early lead in the opening game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second.  After Mia Rogers walked to lead off the inning, Maggie Fleischmann reached on an error and Karsen Angel singled to load the bases with no outs.  A walk to Clara Woolsey brought in the first run, with an error bringing in the second, and a single by Maris Pinheiro scoring the third.

The Bearcats brought in another run in the third after Collar and Rogers singled to lead off the inning.  Both players advanced on a passed ball and then Collar scored on a wild pitch to put Willamette ahead 4-0.  It was Collar's turn to drive in a run in the fourth when her triple scored Maya Filger from first to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Bearcats.

Game two saw another Bearcat victory, this time a 1-0 in nine innings.  The Lutes threatened in each of the opening innings by placing a runner on second base, but each time Bearcat pitcher Abigail Loomis was able to work out of the inning with timely strike outs.

Willamette put two runners on base in the bottom of the fourth when Pinheiro and Maya Filger both reached on errors to start the inning.  After a sacrifice moved the runners to second and third with one out, the Lutes were able to keep the Bearcats off the scoreboard by getting a pop out and ground to end the inning.

Willamette registered their first hit in the bottom of the seventh when Collar doubled to left with just one out, but again PLU escaped as Emma Elliott lined out sharply to short and Rogers lined out to center field.

With Davis keeping the game scoreless in the final three innings, the Bearcats finally broke through in the ninth.  After three consecutive players reached base on an error, Elliott stroked a single down the left field line to score Angel with the winning run.

The Bearcats return to action this weekend when they travel to the University of Puget Sound to play games on Friday, April 18th, and Saturday, April 19th.
