WU Women's Basketball to Play on Friday and Saturday at Capital City Classic

Bearcats will take on Western Oregon plus Corban or California Maritime

MONMOUTH, ORE. -- The women's basketball team from Willamette University will play in two games this weekend at the Capital City Classic, hosted by Western Oregon Oregon at the Physical Education Building on the WOU campus.

Willamette will take on the host Western Oregon Wolves in the first round on Friday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. (PST). In the other first round match-up, Corban University will battle California Maritime Academy at 12 p.m.

The second round will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30. Teams losing on Friday will play in the consolation game at 12 p.m. (PST). Winners in Friday's doubleheader will compete in the championship game at 2 p.m.

Live Stats and a Webcast will be available for the games involving Western Oregon. Live Stats will be available for the games that do not involve Western Oregon.

The Bearcats begin the Capital City Classic with a 1-3 overall record. Western Oregon brings in a 0-3 record, while Corban is 2-3 and California Maritime is 3-6. Willamette competes in NCAA Division III. WOU competes in NCAA Division II. Corban and California Maritime compete in the NAIA.

Willamette has four players who own scoring averaged in double figures.

Jojo DeLong (Jr., G, Santa Clarita, CA/Canyon HS) leads the scoring chart with 16.5 points per game. She has connected on 23 of 40 field goals (57.5%), including 13 of 24 three-point shots (54.2%). In addition, she has averaged 7.0 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game.

Freshman guard Kylie Towry (Medford, OR/South Medford HS) has quickly made an impact. She has averaged 16.0 points per game on 44.0% field goal shooting (22 of 50) and 39.5% accuracy on 3-point shots (15 of 38). She has earned 4.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.0 steals per game.

Rebecca Josephson (Sr., G, Fair Oaks, CA/Del Campo HS) follows with 12.0 points per game. Josephson is Willamette's top rebounder with 8.5 boards per game. Her efforts also have resulted in 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game.

Katie Kalugin (Jr., G, Woodburn, OR/Woodburn HS) is averaging 11.8 points per contest. She is shooting 51.5% from the field (17 of 33) and is providing 4.8 rebounds per game. She has achieved 1.0 assists per game.

Western Oregon is led by junior forward Dana Goularte and senior guard Chantel Divilbiss.

Goularte ranks first in scoring for the Wolves with 15.7 points per game and is first on the glass with 10.3 rebounds per contest. She has converted 20 of 24 free throws (83.3%) and has registered 2.0 steals per game.

Divilbiss has scored 12.0 points per game. She is 7 of 8 at the free throw line.

Key players for Corban include Tara Vanweerdhuizen (Jr., C), Julia Young (So., G) and Jade Lowery (So., G).

Vanweerdhuizen tops the Warriors with 16.4 points per game. She also leads Corban with 10.8 rebounds per game. She has hit 36 of 67 field goal attempts (53.7%) on offense and has blocked 2.2 shots per game on defense.

Young has made 21 of 24 free throws (87.5%) on her way to contributing 11.4 points per contest. She also has provided Corban with 4.4 rebounds per game.

Lowery is averaging 9.6 points and 3.4 assists per game. She also has achieved 1.0 steals per game.

California Maritime Academy has six seniors, five juniors and three sophomores on its roster. The Keelhaulers are redshirting the team's two freshmen. Season statistics were not available for California Maritime.
