SALEM, Ore. -- Corban University scored seven unanswered points in a two-minute span midway through the fourth quarter to take a 53-44 lead, and the Warriors went on to defeat Willamette University, 59-48, in a non-conference women's basketball game between crosstown rivals on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. Corban upped its record to 6-3 on the season, while the Bearcats fell to 3-6.

The Warriors held a slim 46-44 lead with 6:31 left in the game following a 3-pointer by Willamette's Drew Farmer (Jr., PG, Brookings, OR/Brookings-Harbor HS). Corban started its 7-0 run with a layup by Jordan Woodvine nine seconds later. Woodvine added a free throw with 5:48 to go. Treasure Farmer scored for Corban on a layup at the 4:53 mark, and Woodvine tacked on a fast-break layup with 4:29 left.

WU cut the margin to 53-46 on a jumper by Kali Vickery (Sr., G, Glide, OR/Glide HS) with 1:42 remaining after both teams went nearly three minutes without scoring. Treasure Farmer provided Corban with a basket and a foul shot with 1:11 on the clock and the Warriors added three free throws the rest of the way to secure the win.

The Bearcats took a 7-1 lead. Britanny Kochenderfer (Sr., G, Klamath Falls, OR/Henley HS/Idaho State Univ.) scored the game's first point on a free throw, and increased Willamette's margin to 4-0 on a 3-pointer with 7:52 left in the first quarter. Amanda Carpenter (So., G, Beaverton, OR/Sunset HS) put through a 3-pointer shot of her own with 6:16 remaining.

Corban battled back within 7-6, before a jumper by Farmer and a layup by Morgan Yamane (Fr., Moses Lake, WA/Moses Lake HS) gave the Bearcats an 11-6 edge. The Warriors earned the next six points to secure a 12-11 lead. Elizabeth Logsdon (Jr., F, McMinnville, OR/McMinnville HS) put WU back in front at 14-12 with a layup and a foul shot at the 35-second mark.

In the second quarter, Willamette shot 57.1% from the field (8 of 14), while holding the Warriors to 33.3% (4 of 12).

The Bearcats tallied the first nine points of the quarter to expand the lead to 23-12 with 7:28 to go in the half. The run started with a 3-pointer by Farmer, continued with two layups by Logsdon, and ended with a jumper by Kochenderfer. Later, Kochenderfer provided a layup that gave WU a 29-17 lead as the clock reached 2:37. Two 3-pointers by Heidi Mueller helped Corban end the half with an 8-2 run that reduced the margin to 31-25.

Corban outscored Willamette 17-7 in the third quarter. The Warriors started the second half with six straight points to tie the game. The teams were tied two more times during the third quarter before Corban gained a 38-36 advantage on a layup by Abby Forsyth with 4:09 left. Later, Woodvine connected on a jumper with 1:13 remaining in the quarter to give the Warriors a 42-38 edge.

Woodvine also scored a jumper during Corban's first possession of the fourth quarter for a 44-38 lead. Carpenter answered for WU with a 3-point basket, but Treasure Farmer scored on a layup for the Warriors with 7:25 to go. Drew Farmer's 3-pointer less than a minute later pulled the Bearcats within two points at 46-44, before the Warriors' 7-0 run.

Kochenderfer led Willamette with 10 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. She is averaging 13.4 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. Vickery also recorded 10 points and three assists, while connecting on 5 of 7 field goals. Carpenter and Logsdon each finished with nine points, while Drew Farmer achieved eight points and three assists. The Bearcats were 20 of 55 from the field (36.4%) and made 6 of 22 three-point shots (27.3%).

Woodvine of Corban was the game's top scorer with 21 points and hit 8 of 15 field goals. Treasure Farmer provided the Warriors with 19 points. Emily Yost scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds. Forsyth also contributed six boars. Corban shot 40.4% on field goals (21 of 52), while sinking 4 of 11 three-point attempts (36.4%).

The Warriors gained a significant advantage at the free throw line with 16 more attempts than the Bearcats. Corban was 13 of 19 on free throws, while Willamette went 2 for 3.

Willamette will play at University of Portland on Sunday, Dec. 9. The game will be an exhibition for Willamette, but will be a regular season game for the Pilots. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. (PST).

Big Moment of the Game for Willamette

Elizabeth Logsdon scored on a layup and added a free throw with 35
seconds left in the first quarter. Her three-point play gave Willamette
a 14-12 lead. Early in the second quarter, she scored on two layups
just 23 seconds apart. Her efforts at the end of the first quarter and
the beginning of the second quarter contributed to a 12-0 run, as the
Bearcats gained a 23-12 advantage.
