Shigeno and Ho are Selected Academic All-District in Women's Basketball

SALEM, Ore. -- Jasmine Shigeno (Sr., G, Brush Prairie, WA/Hockinson HS) and Carolyn Ho (Sr., G, Parker, CO/Ponderosa HS) of Willamette University have been chosen for the 2023-24 NCAA Division III Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). Shigeno was named Academic All-District for the second year in a row, while Ho received the honor for the first time.

A panel of CSC members will determine which Academic All-District honorees are eligible to be voted onto the NCAA Division III Academic All-America Women's Basketball Team. The Academic All-America Team will be released on Tuesday, April 16. Players nominated for the CSC All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative grade point averages of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. They played in 90% of their team's games or started at least 66% of the games. Each nominated student-athlete was at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing.

The Bearcats earned a 17-10 overall record in 2023-24, after winning the Northwest Conference regular season title at 12-4, hosting and competing at the four-team NWC Tournament, and being selected for the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The Bearcats played Millikin University at the NCAA Regional in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Willamette limited its opponents to 63.0 points per game, 38.1% shooting, and 26.6% success on 3-pointers. The Bearcats held 11 opponents to fewer than 60 points. WU allowed 50 or fewer points five times, including a low of 43 points by Lewis & Clark College on Feb. 17, 2024. The Bearcats averaged 15.4 assists per game and scored on 181 three-point shots (6.7 made 3-pointers per game). The Bearcats scored a season-high 91 points in a 91-58 win over Illinois Tech on Nov. 25, 2023. 

NCAA Division III Academic All-District

This season, Shigeno averaged 4.5 points per game. She connected 32 three-point shots, including several key baskets from long range. She hit four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 14 points in Willamette's 71-5 win at George Fox University on Feb. 16, 2024. She played in 25 games, including 16 starts.

During her career, Shigeno saw action in 57 games. She sank 52 three-point baskets. Her playing time increased each season.

Shigeno is working on a double major in Public Health and Biology. She owns a 3.80 cumulative grade point average at Willamette. She was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student-athlete honorary society, in 2023.

Headshot of Carolyn Ho Carolyn Ho (Sr., G) earned CSC Academic All-District honors for the first time. On the court, she recorded a solid list of statistics in nearly every game this season. She was named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the first time and was chosen as the NWC Defensive Player of the Year. She was chosen Second Team All-NWC in 2022-23.

Ho averaged 11.0 points per game this year and shot 52.8% from the field. She led the NWC on free throws at 89.5% (51 of 57), ranked first in the NWC with 3.6 assists per game, and was second with 2.9 steals per game. She grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds against the University of Puget Sound on Feb. 10, 2024.

During her career, Ho scored 788 points for 10.4 points per game. She saw action in 76 games with 62 starts. She achieved a career free throw percentage of 78.9% (142 of 180). Ho contributed 302 rebounds, 226 assists, 179 steals, and 35 blocks during her career.

Ho is majoring in Psychology at Willamette. She has recorded a 3.55 cumulative GPA. She was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma in 2023.
