Willamette in Eighth Place After Day 1 at NWC Spring Classic

YAKIMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University women's golf team is in eighth place after one day of competition at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic at the Apple Tree Golf Course on Saturday, April 10. Whitworth University holds first place with a team score of 331. The University of Puget Sound is in second place at 337.

Emily Travis of Whitworth is the leader after carding a 76. Sophie Corr from Linfield College is in second place with a score of 80. Third place is a two-way tie between Natalie Nakamine (UPS) and Brianna Nap (George Fox University). Both players shot an 82.

Willamette was led by freshman Haylee Chung (Hilo, HI/Hilo HS). Chung is in a three-way tie for 32nd place with a score of 99. Serena Cualoping (Fr., Manila, Philippines/International School) finished just one stroke behind Chung with a score of 100 and was in 35th place.

Following Whitworth and Puget Sound in the team standings was George Fox University in third at 341. Linfield College held fourth place at 343, Pacific University was fifth at 361 and Whitman College was sixth at 380.

Pacific Lutheran University was seventh at 401. Willamette finished the day in eighth place at 457. Lewis & Clark College competed with an incomplete team and did not qualify for the team standings.

The teams will resume play tomorrow, Sunday, April 11, in Yakima, Wash.
