Ruiz Finishes with WU's Lowest 36-Hole Score at Pacific Invitational

BANKS, Ore. -- The Willamette University women's golf team was led by Analyssa Ruiz (Sr./So., Keizer, OR/Blanchet Catholic School) in the final standings of the Pacific Invitational, as the two-day event concluded on Sunday, Feb. 28 at Quail Valley Golf Course. George Fox University won the team title, while Willamette finished sixth.

Ruiz carded a score of 110 in the second round to go along with a 106 in Saturday's first round. She placed 23rd overall with a 36-hole score of 216. Meghan Hook (Jr./So., Sunnyvale, CA/Homestead HS) registered Willamette's low round on Sunday with a score of 109, as she finished at 237. Alexis Schwartz (Sr./So., Ontario, OR/Ontario HS) carded a 116 in the second round and ended the tournament at 250. Kiki Fierstos (Jr./So., Redmond, OR/Redmond HS) finished the 36 holes at 285.

George Fox golfers earned the top five positions on the final individual leaderboard. Makensie Toole gained medalist honors at 154 after shooting 77 in both rounds. Alison Takaymiya was second at 156 (79-77). Quincy Beyrouty with 75-82 and Alexandria McMenamin with 79-78 tied for third place at 157. Kaitlyn Tonai was fifth with a score of 159 (80-79).

Kamryn Ford from Lewis & Clark College tied for sixth place with GFU golfers Nicolle Nitta and Allie Slingsby, as all three carded totals of 166. Ford and Slingsby each shot 83-83, while Nitta carded 81-85.

The team championship went to George Fox at 626 (315-311).  Whitworth placed second at 745 (375-371). Linfield University followed in third place at 801 (403-398). Pacific University was fourth at 807 (405-402), Lewis & Clark was fifth at 882 (429-453). Willamette placed sixth at 988 (501-487).

Willamette is scheduled to return to action at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28. The tournament will be hosted by Lewis & Clark at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Oregon.
