Srivastav Leads Bearcats with a 95 in Second Round of West Region Duel

PLANO, Texas -- Anushka Srivastav (Fy., Pune, India/Mahindra International School) shot a 95 in the second round of the West Region Duel in women's golf on Thursday, March 24 to lead the Bearcats during the final 18 holes at The Courses at Watters Creek. Srivastav, who shot a 108 in the first round on Wednesday, led Willamette with an overall score of 203 in the final standings. Both rounds were held at the Traditions Course.

The West Region Duel featured Willamette's golfers against golfers from the University of Texas-Dallas. Team scores were not recorded.

Also competing for Willamette were Meghan Hook (Sr., Sunnyvale, CA/Homestead HS), Alexis Schwartz (Grad., Ontario, OR/Ontario HS), and Kiki Fierstos (Sr., Redmond, OR/Redmond HS). Hook and Schwartz each shot 109 in the second round. Hook, ho carded a 100 in the first round, finished at 209. Schwartz, who shot 111 in the first round, registered an overall score of 220. Fierstos shot 225 overall (113-112).

"I'm so proud of the women's golf team this week," Willamette Head Women's Golf Coach Patrick Daugherty said. "I think the wind was really tough and they handled it great. We had two personal records this week and we got to see some better consistency as the week went on."

Karen Alvarez of UT-Dallas earned the low round of the tournament with a 76 on Thursday. She shot an 80 in the first round to top the leaderboard and ended the 36 holes in first place at 156. She won by five strokes over teammate Maddy Vilven, who shot 151 (81-80). Also for the Comets, Sofia Trevino ended the competition at 154 after improving by 10 strokes from an 87 to a 77, while Danielle Dimafelix shot 182 (92-90).

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, April 2 at Willamette's Spring Trilogy #3. The 18-hole tournament will be held at McNary Golf Club in Keizer, Oregon.
