Tolliver Improves by Six Strokes on Second Day of Wildcat Invitational

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Mallory Tolliver (Fy., Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington HS) of Willamette University improved by six strokes during the second round of the Wildcat Invitational in women's golf on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Michelbook Country Club. Tolliver shot 104 in the first round, but carded a 98 in the second round for a 36-hole total of 202.

Teammate Saida Seelig (Fy., Portland, OR/Wilson HS) shot 105 for the second day in a row. Her overall score was 210.

"Both players did well in their second collegiate event," Willamette Head Women's Golf Coach Patrick Daugherty said. "I thought both had better ball-striking days today. Mallory did a great job improving by six strokes ... that was a good improvement. Saida was consistent, and overall hit some really good shots to build off of."

Alison Takamiya from George Fox University won the individual tournament championship with a score of 141. She shot a tournament-low 68 in the second round after earning a 73 in the first round.

Takamiya led GFU to a 1-2-3-4-5 finish. Liana Brown placed second at 144 (71-73), while Makensie Toole was third at 147 (75-72). Avery Kageyama was fourth at 151 (77-74) and Carter Ainsley placed fifth at 165 (87-78).

Nikki Tabios of Pacific University and Kiana Toole of George Fox tied for sixth place with scores of 168. Tabios carded 85-83 and Toole shot 84-84.Madi Cabardo of Pacific was eighth at 170 (87-83). Josie Daywitt from host Linfield University was ninth at 172 (84-88). A total of 27 golfers participated in the women's competition. 

George Fox won the team title with a score of 583. The Bruins shot 296 on Saturday and 287 on Sunday. Pacific finished in second place at 740 (366-374), with host Linfield University in third place at 746 (367-379), and the University of Puget Sound in fourth at 778 (401-377). Willamette did not enter a full team.

Willamette will compete at the Culturame Classic, hosted by George Fox University, on Sunday, Oct. 2 and Monday, Oct. 3. The tournament will be held at the Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby, Oregon.
