Tolliver Shoots 95 for Willamette in Second Round of NWC Fall Classic

SALEM, Ore. -- Mallory Tolliver (Fy., Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington HS) of Willamette University shot a 95 in the second round of the 2022 Northwest Conference Fall Classic on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Creekside Golf Club. It was Tolliver's low round of the fall season. She was just 8-over par on the front nine, which completed the round. All of the women's golfers entered in the tournament opened the second round on the back nine.

George Fox University won the team title with a score of 581 during the 36-hole event. The Bruins shot 290 in the first round on Saturday and then followed-up with a score of 291 on Sunday. Whitworth University placed second at 657 (320-337), while Whitman College took third place at 660 (338-322). Pacific Lutheran University was fourth at 675 (328-347), Pacific University earned fifth place at 717 (351-366), and Linfield University placed sixth at 743 (371-372). The University of Puget Sound finished in seventh place at 771 (367-404) and Lewis & Clark College was eighth at 970 (470-500). Willamette did not enter a full team.

Each year, the NWC women's golf championship includes three tournaments -- the NWC Fall Classic, the NWC Spring Classic, and the NWC Tournament. The Fall Classic and the Spring Classic are each worth one-fourth of the title, while the NWC Tournament is worth one-half of the title. The NWC Spring Classic and the NWC Tournament will be held during the spring semester.

In addition to Tolliver, other Bearcats participating in the NWC Fall Classic were Saida Seelig (Fy., Portland, OR/Wilson HS) and Kennedy Raphelt (Jr.). Seelig carded an overall score of 200 with a 98 in the first round and a 102 in the second round. Raphelt shot 202 with scores of 100 and 102.

Makensie Toole from George Fox University claimed the individual championship at 143, as she shot 71 on Saturday and 72 on Sunday. She won by two strokes and led a 1-2-3-4-6 finish by the Bruins.

Avery Kageyama of GFU placed second at 145 (70-75) and Alison Takamiy from GFU was third at 146 (760-70. Liana Brown took fourth place for the Bruins at 147 (73-74). Brianna McNelly of Whitworth placed fifth with a score of 153 (79-74). Ainsley Carter from George Fox was sixth at 159 (82-77).

Whitman's Cindy Luo earned seventh place with a score of 160 (79-81) and one of her teammates, Katya Kurkoski, took eighth place at 161 (83-78). Emily Fisher, competing for Pacific Lutheran, was ninth at 164 (79-85). Beatrice Archer of Whitman and Sara Rhodes from PLU tied for 10th pace at 165. Archer shot 87-78 and Rhodes carded 82-83.

The NWC Fall Classic was the final event on the Willamette women's golf schedule for the fall semester.
