Srivastav Leads Bearcats in First Round of NWC Tournament in Women's Golf

WOODBURN, Ore. -- Anushka Srivastav (So., Pune, India/Mahindra International School) led the Willamette University women's golf team during the first round of the 2023 Northwest Conference Tournament on Saturday, April 22 at the Oregon Golf Association (OGA) Golf Course. Srivastav completed the round with a score of 97.

Saida Seelig (Fy., Portland, OR/Wilson HS) of Willamette carded a 101 and teammate Mallory Tolliver (Fy., Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington HS) shot 105. The NWC Tournament will conclude on Sunday, April 23 with the second round. All of the golfers will begin at 8:30 a.m. (PDT) with a shotgun start.

George Fox University led the team standings after 18 holes with a score of 9-over par 297. Whitworth University was in second place at 334, and Pacific Lutheran University held third place at 341. Pacific University followed in fourth at 351, with Linfield University in fifth at 369, and the University of Puget Sound in sixth at 386. Willamette, Whitman College, and Lewis & Clark College are not competing with full teams.

Liana Brown of George Fox topped the individual leaderboard with a 3-under par 69. She owned a three-stroke margin over Alison Takamiya, also from GFU, who was in second with an even par 72. Makensie Toole of GFU was third at 76, completing a 1-2-3 lead for the Bruins. Nikki Tabios from Pacific was fourth with a 78. Avery Kageyama held fifth place with an 80.

Four golfers were tied for sixth place after carding rounds of 81. The tie for sixth included Brigitte Fenton of Whitworth, Giselle Flint from George Fox, Madison Hull from Pacific Lutheran, and Cindy Luo of Whitman. Emily Fischer of PLU and Gabby Martinez from Whitworth were tied for 10th place at 82.

The NWC Tournament is one of three events used to determine the overall Northwest Conference champion. The NWC Fall Classic is worth one-fourth of the title and the NWC Spring Classic is worth one-fourth of the title. The NWC Tournament is worth one-half of the championship.
