Srivastav Cards an 86 for Bearcats in Second Round of NWC Spring Classic

DuPONT, Wash. -- Anushka Srivastav (Sr., Pune, India/Mahindra International School) of Willamette University shot an 86 to lead the Bearcats during the second round of the 2024 Northwest Conference Spring Classic at The Home Course. Teammate Roberta Moore (So., Lakewood, WA/Lakes HS/Lewis & Clark College) carded a 36-hole score of 170 to tie for 24th place and lead Willamette in the final standings as the tournament ended on Monday, April 8.

Srivastav's 86 in the second round improved her score by five strokes over the 91 she recorded in the first round. She finished at 177 overall. Moore shot a career-low score of 80 in the first round before registering a 90 in the second round.

Also competing for Willamette were Saida Seelig (So., Portland, OR/Wilson HS) and Mallory Tolliver (So., Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington HS). Seelig shot 195 for 36 holes with a 94 in the first round and a 101 on Monday. Tolliver finished at 196 with scores of 101 on Sunday and 95 in the final round.

George Fox University won the team title with a score of 588 as the Bruins shot 295 in the first round and 293 in the second round. Whitman College took second place at 619 (295-304). Whitworth University placed third with a score of 637 (312-325), Pacific University was fourth at 650 (327-323), Pacific Lutheran University took fifth at 662 (326-336), the University of Puget Sound placed sixth at 678 (337-341), Willamette was seventh at 738 (366-372), and Linfield University was eighth with a score of 744 (369-375).

The individual champion of the NWC Spring Classic was Alison Takamiya of George Fox with a score of 5-under par 139. She scored a tournament low 3-under par in the first round and shot a 2-under par 70 in the second round. Liana Brown, also from George Fox, placed second at 1-over par 145 with scores of 75 and 70. Two other Bruins, Makensie Toole and Reyna Naranjo, finished third and fourth, respectively. Toole shot 151 (73-78) and Naranjo shot 153 (78-75). Ellena Jeong of Whitman placed fourth at 153 (78-75).

Tied for sixth place with scores of 155 were Bead Boonta from Pacific and Katya Kurkoski of Whitman. Boonta carded 80-75, while Kurkoski shot 82-73. Kaila Bonawitz of Puget Sound placed eighth at 156 after earning a score of 78 in both rounds.

A three-way tie for 10th included Stella Fergin from Whitworth, Samantha Torres of Whitman, and Emily Fisher from Pacific Lutheran, all at 157. Fergin and Fisher each shot 79-78, while Torres carded 80-77.

The NWC Spring Classic is one of three tournaments used to determine the overall Northwest Conference champion each season. The NWC Spring Classic is worth one-fourth of the title and the NWC Fall Classic is worth one-fourth of the title. The NWC Tournament, set for April 20-21 at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Oregon, is worth one-half of the title. So far this season, George Fox is in first place after winning both the NWC Fall Classic and the NWC Spring Classic.

Willamette will be back in action on Saturday, April 13 for the Bearcat Women's Dual #1 against Linfield University at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Oregon. The 18-hole tournament is slated to start at 1 p.m. PDT.
