GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Southwestern University (Texas) scored the game's first five goals and the Pirates went on to defeat Willamette University, 16-2, in a women's lacrosse game on Tuesday, March 23. The win advanced Southwestern's record to 6-3 on the season, while Willamette moved to 2-4.

Johnsee Wolter of Southwestern scored three goals during the Pirates' opening run, but didn't score again. She tallied back-to-back goals at 23:40 and 20:26 in the first half to complete the 5-0 surge. Anabel Ohsman (So., ATT, Shohomish, WA/Glacier Peak HS) of Willamette scored next on a free position shot at the 19:19 mark. The Bearcats' second goal was earned by Alayna Newland (So., ATT, Everett, WA/Archbishop Murphy HS) with 27:41 go in the second half on a free position shot. Newland's goal cut SU's lead to 10-2.

Hayley Donnelly topped the Pirates with four goals. She also led SU with six assists and scored 10 total points. Her performance also included three draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Wolter, Madison Godleski and Natas Perez-Krause each registered three goals.

Southwestern gained a 34-16 advantage in total shots and a 26-13 edge in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Kara Phillips (Sr., Kirkland, WA/Lake Washington HS) of WU supplied the Bearcats with 10 saves. Mckenna Zinke of SU accumulated 11 saves. Willamette achieved an 11-7 lead in draw controls, and the Pirates attained a 29-15 margin in ground balls.

The Pirates caused 12 of Willamette's 19 turnovers, while the Bearcats forced seven of Southwestern's 15 turnovers. Miranda Piros (Fr., MID, Newberg, OR/Newberg HS) led Willamette with three caused turnovers, while Emma Conchola (Fr., DEF, Oregon City OR/Oregon City HS) earned two. Grace Maynard of Southwestern caused four turnovers.

Willamette will take on Northwest Conference rival Pacific University at Sparks Field on Saturday, March 30. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. (PDT). The Bearcats will host Linfield College on Sunday, March 31, also at 1 p.m.

Anabel Ohsman scored her 18th goal of the season for the
Bearcats with 19:19 left in the first half. Ohsman has scored
a goal in five of Willamette's six games. She leads the Bearcats
in goals, total shots (31) and shots on goal (29).
