Klenk Sets Willamette Season Scoring Record with 7-Goal Outburst versus Pacific

SALEM, Ore. -- Tati Klenk (Sr., ATT, Truckee, CA/Tahoe Truckee HS) scored seven goals for Willamette University in a Northwest Conference game against Pacific University on Saturday, April 8, giving her a school record 49 goals on the season. Klenk's offensive success helped the Bearcats defeat the Boxers 18-4 at Sparks Field. Willamette moved its record to 9-4 overall, 6-3 in the NWC. Pacific fell to 5-10, 1-9 in the NWC.

Klenk broke the previous Willamette record of 48 goals in a season, set by Maddie Garcia (Sr., MID, Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) in 2022.

Willamette created a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and held a 10-3 advantage at halftime. Another 5-0 surge by the Bearcats in the third quarter expanded the lead to 15-3.

Klenk's seven goals were followed by three goals each from Garcia. Shea Richardson-Pepper (So., DEF/MID, San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch HS) contributed two goals and one assist, while Catie Kawamura (Sr., ATT, San Diego, CA/San Diego International Studies) scored two goals.

Lily Bachiochi (So., ATT, Henderson, NV/Coronado HS) tallied one goal and three assists, giving her team-leading totals of 34 assists and 62 total points. Kendyl Jennings (Jr., MID, Keizer, OR/McNary HS) supplied the Bearcats with one assist.

Four players scored one goal for Pacific. The goal scorers were Hyland Cullen-Musengo, Sarah Pokorny, Devyn Davis, and Mia White. Cullen-Musengo also earned one assist.

Willamette's five goals in the first quarter began with scores by Klenk at 14:04 and Bachiochi at 13:19. Garcia added the third goal about six minutes later at the 7:29 mark. Kisielnicki registered goals at 5:52 and 2:21. Klenk earned her second goal just under a minute into the second quarter for a 6-0 lead. Davis scored for Pacific with 13:12 left in the half to put Pacific on the scoreboard.

Klenk scored again for WU with 11:48 left in the half for a 7-1 advantage. She earned her fourth goal before halftime, then scored twice in the third quarter, and recorded her seventh goal with 8:29 remaining in the fourth quarter.

WU goalkeeper Shelby Sawyer (Sr., GK, Marysville, WA/Bio Med Academy) was credited with six saves while improving to 8-4 on the season. Pacific goalie Diane Crets also made six saves. Willamette outshot the Boxers 35-14 overall and 24-10 in shots on target.

The Bearcats earned a sizable 24-8 advantage in ground balls, led by Jade Kampen (Sr., DEF, Eugene, OR/South Eugene HS) with six and Kisielnicki with four. Pacific gained a 15-11 margin in draw controls. Cukllne-Musengo was credited with eight draw controls for the Boxers, while Kampen and Kawmura each achieved four draw controls for Willamette.

On clears, Willamette was a solid 15 of 19 (78.9%), while Pacific was 5 of 14 (35.7%). Kampen led all players with two caused turnovers. 

The Bearcats will play at Linfield University on Sunday, April 9. Game time is set for 1 p.m. (PDT) in McMinnville, Oregon.
