George Fox Edges Past Bearcats, 1-0

NEWBERG, ORE. -- Willamette University outshot George Fox University, 21-13, in Northwest Conference action on Saturday, Sept. 27, but the Bearcats were unable to score, while the Bruins used a goal by Kirsten Cardwell to win the game, 1-0. GFU improved to 5-2 overall, 1-2 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 4-4 on the season, 2-2 in the conference.

Cardwell scored just over seven minutes into the second half at 52:02. She was assisted on the goal by Jenny McKinsey. It was Cardwell's second goal of the season.

In addition to taking eight more shots than the Bruins, Willamette also achieved an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Seven of WU's shots on goal were in the second half.

The Bearcats earned 10 corner kicks, including nine in the second half. GFU had three corner kicks, with just one corner in the final 45 minutes.

Sally Page of George Fox recorded eight saves in goal to claim the shutout. WU goalie Kelli Gano (So., Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) earned four saves for the Bearcats.

Willamette's next game is at Sparks Field on Saturday, Oct. 4, when the Bearcats will host Pacific University. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m. (PDT).
