Women's Soccer Ties Lewis & Clark, 2-2, in Two Overtimes

Batzer and Skelly Score for Willamette

SALEM, ORE. -- After four first half goals, Willamette University and Lewis & Clark College finished in a 2-2 tie in two overtimes, in Northwest Conference women's soccer action on Sunday, Oct. 17. Willamette is now 6-8-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the NWC. Lewis & Clark moved to 2-9-3 overall and 0-9-1 in the NWC.

The two teams combined to score three goals in the first ten minutes of the game. Alex Batzer (Sr., F, Medford, OR/North Medford HS) opened up the scoring for Willamette. The senior scored on a tap-in after a long pass from Megan Moore (Sr., D, Tigard, OR/Tigard HS). The goal was Batzer's fifth of the season and came in the 3rd minute.

Lewis & Clark evened the score at 1-1 when Emilia Emmetti scored her second goal of the season on a corner kick that went just inside the right post. Emmetti's goal was scored at 8:09.

The score was tied for 30 seconds before Stephanie Skelly (Jr., MF, Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) scored her ninth goal of the season on a shot from eight yards to put Willamette in front 2-1 at 8:39. Skelly was assisted by Batzer on the play.

Lewis & Clark scored one more goal before halftime to even the score at 2-2. Natalie Levy scored on a shot from 15 yards out to the right side at 16:38. She was assisted by Catherine Kitts on the play.

Willamette controlled the ball for most of the second half and each of the overtime periods but was unable to score. The Bearcats took 20 shots in the game, including 12 shots on goal. The Pioneers had 10 shots and four shots on goal.

Elise Delgado played all 110 minutes in goal for Lewis & Clark. She made eight saves and allowed two goals.

Kelli Gano (Sr., GK, Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) and Nicole Price (Fr., GK, Auburn, WA/Thomas Jefferson HS) split time in goal for WU. Gano allowed two goals in 45 minutes. Price played the second half and both overtime periods and did not allow a goal. She made one save.

Willamette is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 24 at home against the University of Puget Sound. The game will begin at 12 p.m. (PDT) at Sparks Field. Seniors will be recognized at the game.
