Manset Named NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for Fourth Time

SALEM, Ore. -- Emmy Manset (Sr., F, Ventura, CA/Foothill Technology HS) from Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season and the second week in a row. She received this week's award after scoring the first goal in each game as Willamette defeated University of Puget Sound 2-1 on Nov. 4 and shut out George Fox University 3-0 on Nov. 5. Earlier this fall, she was chosen NWC Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 2, Oct. 16 and Oct. 30.

With the pair of wins, Willamette concluded a very successful season at 13-4-3 overall and 10-4-2 (4th place) in the NWC. The Bearcats scored 34 goals on the season and registered nine shutouts on defense.

Manset provided the Bearcats with a 1-0 lead against Puget Sound when she scored on a 7-yard shot into fthe upper right corner of the goal at 21:45. The Loggers tied the game about four minutes later, but Shanna Keil (So., M, Danville, CA/San Ramon Valley HS) scored the winning goal for Willamette at 37:34. The Bearcats kept their 2-1 lead throughout the second half to earn their first victory over Puget Sound since Oct. 23, 2011.

At George Fox, Manset tackled the ball away from the Bruins' goalie near the top of the six-yard box and sent the ball into the net just 7:22 into the game. The Bearcats added two more goals in the first half on shots by Keil and Hannah Deighton (So., M, Long Beach, CA/Long Beach Polytechnic HS). The Bearcats continued to shut out the Bruins in the second half.

During the week, Manset took a total of seven shots, with three against Puget Sound and four versus GFU. Four of her seven shots were on target. She scored at least one goal in each of her last four games and in six of the last seven.

Manset's 13 goals this season ranked her first in the NWC. She completed her Willamette career with 23 goals and two assists.
