Main is Named NWC Women's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamettte University forward Gena Main (Jr., San Francisco, CA/Gateway HS/Bryn Mawr College) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Student=-Athlete of the Week for her efforts as the Bearcats defeated University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Sept. 22 and downed George Fox University on Sunday, Sept. 23.

Main scored a goal in each win. Against Puget Sound, she contributed the second goal in a 2-0 victory. The game between the Bearcats and the Loggers was a battle of regionally ranked teams. Willamette entered the game ranked #7 in the West Region and Puget Sound was ranked #9. In Willamette's 2-1 triumph over Geroge Fox, Main scored the winning goal at 79:38 to break a 1-1 tie.

During the week, Main took five total shots, including four shots on goal. For the season, Main has the two goals plus one assist, and is ranked second on the team with five total points. She has registered 21 shots with seven shots on goal. The Bearcats are 7-0-1 on the season to go along with a 3-0-1 record in the NWC.

Willamette will host NWC rivals Whitworth University and Whitman College this weekend. The Bearcats will take on Whitworth on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Sparks Field, starting at 12 p.m. (PDT). On Sunday, Sept. 30, the Bearcats will compete against Whitman, also at 12 p.m.
