Linfield Defeats Willamette in Women's Soccer, 4-0, in McMinnville

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Laney Green scored three goals for Linfield University as the Wildcats downed Willamette University, 4-0, on Sunday, March 21 in a Northwest Conference women's soccer game at the Linfield Soccer Complex. The Wildcats, who edged Willamette 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday, improved to 5-1 overall and to 5-1 in the NWC. The Bearcats fell to 1-3 this season, 1-3 in the NWC.

Green earned the final three goals of the game in the first 15:24 of the second half to help the Wildcats pull away after Linfield held a slim 1-0 lead at halftime. Green's goals were scored at 49:53, 56:25, and 60:24.

Callie Kawaguchi opened the scoring for Linfield with a tap-in at 21:48 on an assist from Michayla Sponsel. Neither team scored during the rest of the half, which ended with Linfield holding a 6-2 edge in total shots.

The first goal by Green gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead less than five minutes after the intermission. Green avoided WU goalkeeper Grasiela Quevedo-Ramos (Sr., GK, Salem, OR/West Salem HS) and scored following a pass from Natalie Amara. Green registered the next goal after receiving a through-pass from Jill Leroux. Izzy Chauls also was credited with an assist on the play. The final goal was achieved by Green on a shot into the right side of the net, as she completed another scoring play set up by a pass from Leroux.

Quevedo-Ramos made two saves for the Bearcats. Jordan Roue (Jr., GK, San Jose, CA/Prospect HS) played the final 33:06 in goal for the Bearcats, but did not register an assist. On offense, Willamette took all four of the game's corner kicks.

Linfield goalkeeper Madi Reimer was credited with one save while recording the shutout. She improved to 4-1 on the season. The Wildcats attained a 12-2 edge in total shots, including a 6-1 margin in shots on goal. Emma Blackburn (Jr., F, Los Altos, CA/Saint Francis HS) and Sydney Wilson (Jr., M, Olympia, WA/Capital HS) each had one shot for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats will play at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon, on Wednesday, March 24. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. (PDT).
