Duxbury Scores Goal for Willamette in 3-1 Loss at California Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- California Lutheran University earned a 3-0 lead in the first 32 minutes on its way to a 3-1 victory over Willamette University on Sunday, Sept. 5 at William Rolland Stadium. Willamette defensive leader Isabel Duxbury (Sr., Seattle, WA/University Prep) broke up the shutout by scoring a goal at 68:03. It was Duxbury's first career goal for the Bearcats.

The Regals grabbed a 1-0 lead one minute into the game. Alexandra Fagerberg received an assist on the goal as her corner kick from the left side started the play. The pass reached Elisa Schott, who scored on a header from three yards in the center of the six-yard box.

Isabella Veljacic scored the second goal for California Lutheran at 30:19 on a 6-yard shot from the right side that snuck into the goal just inside the near post. The goal was assisted by Darya Rasoli. Veljacic provided the assist on CLU's third goal, scored by Mackenzie Boulware at 32:00. Veljacic sent a short through-pass to Boulware, who timed her run to stay onside. Boulware shot from 14 yards.

The Regals outshot the Bearcats 11-3 in the first half and finished the game with a 22-4 margin in total shots. WU's starting goalkeeper, Jordan Roue, registered three saves in the first half. Sam Borngasser (Fy., GK, Grants Pass, OR/Grants Pass HS) played the second 45-minutes for the Bearcats and made nine saves while preventing the Regals from scoring. California Lutheran goalie Abby Flores played all 90 minutes and did not record a save.

Duxbury's goal was earned on a header from 8 yards out following a corner kick. She now has six career points, including four assists.

The Bearcats are 3-0 on the season, while California Lutheran is 1-1-1. Willamette will return to action against Bushnell University (Ore.) on Friday, Sept. 10 at Sparks Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. (PDT).
