Wilson is Named Honorable Mention All-Northwest Conference

SALEM, Ore. -- Sydney Wilson (Sr., M, Olympia, WA/Capital HS) from Willamette University women's soccer team has been chosen Honorable Mention All-Northwest Conference for the fall 2021 season as voted by the NWC head coaches. Wilson played in 19 games with 11 starts or the Bearcats.

A total of 36 players were named to the 2021 All-NWC Women's Soccer Team. The First Team included 12 athletes, with 12 players on the Second Team, and 12 athletes earning Honorable Mention.

Kylee Roath, a junior midfielder from the University of Puget Sound was chosen NWC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year. Pacific Lutheran University junior Ella Merte received the NWC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year honor. Hannah Cecil, a forward from Pacific Lutheran was named NWC Women's Soccer Freshman of the Year. Puget Sound Head Coach Kim Calkins was voted NWC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.

Willamette finished the season with a 5-15 overall record, including 4-12 in the NWC. The Bearcats scored 20 goals and recorded two shutouts on defense.

Honorable Mention All-Northwest Conference

Headshot of Sydney Wilson Sydney Wilson (Sr., M) was selected Honorable Mention All-NWC for the first time. She played in 17 games, all starts, this season, and was a key player throughout the field. She helped win the ball on defense, provided solid connections in the midfield to move the ball forward, and was a threat on offense.

Wilson earned two goals and one assist for five points this fall, while taking 16 shots with eight shots on goal. She went 1 for 1 on a penalty kick. Her ability to control the ball and to shield off defenders was important for the Bearcats whenever she was on the field. She consistently made a positive impact during Willamette's games.

In her four-year career with the Bearcats, Wilson saw action in 59 games with 46 starts. She scored a total of 10 goals to go along with two assists. She took 57 total shots, including 30 shots on target. She contributed four game-winning goals.
