Six Willamette Women's Soccer Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

SALEM, Ore. -- Six Willamette University student-athletes have been chosen for the 2022 NCAA Division III Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, as voted by the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA). Willamette's Academic All-District selections were Ella Abraham (So., F, Lexington, KY/Lafayette HS), Rachel Compton (Sr., GK, Lake Stevens, WA/Lake Stevens HS/Skagit Valley College), Jackie Gilroy (Sr., D, Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island HS), Braeden Glaser (Jr., F, Battle Ground, WA/Prairie HS), Nina Krassner-Cybulski (So., F, Porter Ranch, CA/Agoura HS), and Clara Mattison (Sr., M, Burlington, WA/Burlington Edison HS).

All Academic All-District selections are eligible to be chosen for the College Sports Communicators NCAA Division III Academic All-America Team. Players nominated for the CSC All-District Team were starters or key reserves with cumulative grade point averages of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Each nominated student-athlete was at their current college or university for at least one academic year.

Willamette finished the 2022 season with a 6-11-2 record. The Bearcats scored 26 goals in 19 games and earned a 1.79 goals against average with seven shutouts on defense.

NCAA Division III Academic All-District

Headshot of Ella Abraham Ella Abraham (So., F) played in all 19 games with 12 starts and scored four goals for the Bearcats. Two of her goals were game-winners against Whitman College on Oct. 16 and against Pacific University on Oct. 29. She took 16 total shots and placed 10 shots on goal. During her first two years with the Bearcats, she has played in 38 games with 15 starts. Abraham has scored six career goals, while placing 15 of 22 shots on target. She has a 3.69 cumulative GPA and has not declared a major at Willamette.

 

Headshot of Rachel Compton Rachel Compton (Sr., GK) earned 49 saves this year, while recording four solo shutouts and one shared shutout. She contributed a 1.72 goals against average. She registered a season-high 11 saves at Whitworth University on Sept. 17. She finished the season with a 4-6-1 goalie win-loss-tie record. She was chosen NWC Women's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 31 with a 1-0-1 record and a 0.00 GAA in 135 minutes played. In two years at WU, Compton has achieved four solo shutouts and two shared shutouts. Her career totals include 1,368 minutes played, 69 saves, and a 1.71 goals against average. She is majoring in Exercise and Health Science with a 3.79 cumulative GPA.

Headshot of Jackie Gilroy Jackie Gilroy (Sr., D) played and started all 19 games this year and earned two goals and five assists. She took many of Willamette's offensive free kicks and her five assists tied for second in the NWC. Her career totals in 67 games and 43 starts include nine goals, 10 assists, and 28 points. She has produced three game-winning goals while taking 45 career shots and placing 25 shots on goal. In 2019, she scored six goals and one assist as a first-year player. Gilroy has achieved a 3.97 cumulative GPA and is majoring in Public Health.

 

Headshot of Braeden Glaser Braeden Glaser (Jr., F) saw action in all 19 games this fall and scored three goals for the Bearcats. She found space two work with on offense and took 17 shots, including eight shots on goal.  Was credited with 17 shots and 8 shots on goal. She helped to control the ball and to set up the attack. During her Willamette career, Glaser has played in 31 games with 19 starts. She is majoring in Exercise and Health Science and has earned a 3.72 cumulative GPA.


 

Headshot of Nina Krassner-Cybulski Nina Krassner-Cybulski (So., F) was named Honorable Mention All-NWC this season. She led Willamette with eight goals and 17 total points. She provided lots of creativity on offense which strengthened the Bearcats' attack. She scored the only goal in a 1-0 win at the University of La Verne on Sept. 9. During the season, she took 22 shots and sent 14 shots on goal. In her career, she has played in 38 games and made 22 starts. She has nine career goals to go along with two assists plus 40 total shots and 28 shots on goal. Krassner-Cybulski is majoring in Sociology. She owns a 3.76 cumulative GPA.

 

Headshot of Clara Mattison Clara Mattison (Sr., M) contributed all over the field this season and was strong at connecting defense to offense. She played and started a total of 17 games. She excelled in the midfield and provided Willamette with one goal and one assist this year -- both in wins for the Bearcats. Her career has included 47 games with 41 starts. Mattison has taken 53 shots during her career, including 25 shots on target. She has claimed a 3.56 cumulative GPA while majoring in Exercise and Health Science.
