NWC Chooses Cleland for Women's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Sophie Cleland (Sr., F, Eugene, OR/North Eugene HS) of Willamette University has been named the Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in games played on Wednesday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 16. Cleland scored all of Willamette's goals during the week, as the Bearcats tied Linfield University 2-2 on Wednesday and tied Lewis & Clark College 1-1 on Sunday.

At Linfield, Cleland scored the game's first goal on a penalty kick at 33:57. Linfield tallied the next goal at 47:33 and the Wildcats took a 2-1 lead at 85:39. Willamette pushed for the tying goal and Cleland responded with an unassisted score at 89:08. Overall, she took 6 total shots with 5 shots on goal during the week.

Willamette has gone 1-1-2 in the last four games and is 1-9-4 overall, 1-6-3 in the NWC. The Bearcats will play at the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Oct. 21. Game time is set for 12 p.m. PDT.
