Strong defensive effort holds Lutes scoreless as Women’s Soccer ties PLU

Tacoma, WA - For the second time in a week, Willamette Women's Soccer went head-to-head with a nationally-ranked opponent and the Bearcat defense stood tall to lead to a scoreless draw.  Last Saturday it was at home against California Lutheran and today it was on the road at Pacific Lutheran.

The Lutes generated more offensive than the Bearcats during the match, getting off 24 total shots, with seven on goal and three hitting the post during the match, but Willamette's defense held strong and kept PLU off the scoreboard thanks to six saves by goalkeeper Sam Borngasser.

Though outshot 24-7, Willamette was able to put five of their seven shots on goal.  Ella Abraham led the Bearcats with three shots, followed by Claire Warthen with two.  Each team was called offside once and Pacific Lutheran held a 5-0 advantage or corner kicks.

Willamette plays the second game on their Tacoma trip when they face the University of Puget Sound on Sunday, September 22nd at 2:45 pm.  The Bearcats' next home match will be Sunday, September 29th when they host George Fox University, also kicking off at 2:45 pm.
