Salem, OR - Willamette Women's Soccer scored two goals in a game for the third time this season and defeated George Fox University 2-1 at Sparks Field. The Bearcats came out as the aggressor to start each half and it paid off in early goals, the first one coming just over six minutes into the game on a shot by Nina Krassner-Cybulski off a long pass across the field by Claire Warthen. The second goal was just over two minutes into the second half as Ella McComas took a pass from Ella Abraham and slotted it past the goalkeeper to the lower left corner.
The shots were relatively even for the game, but the Bearcats held much of the play for large portions of the match. In the end, the Bruins had 14 shots with four on goal to the Bearcats' 13 shots, also with four on goal.
The Bruins had a great chance to even the score in the first half as Trinity Carrington was able to get possession of the ball behind Willamette goalkeeper Sam Borngasser, but Carrington's shot was deflected wide left of the goal by the Bearcat defense. Borngasser played all 90 minutes in goal for Willamette, making two saves.
The Bruins were able to score in the final minutes of the match when they were awarded a penalty kick. Willa Evans calmly scored the PK, but there was not enough time left for George Fox to mount another attack.
McComas led Willamette in shots on the day with four, followed by Abraham with three, and Erin Denney with two.
Willamette travels to Eastern Washington next weekend to take on Whitman College on Saturday, October 5th, and Whitworth University on Sunday, October 6th. Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 2:45 pm. The next home game for the Bearcats will be Sunday, October 13th vs Linfield University.
