Warthen scores to tie the match, but Puget Sound scores late to win 2-1

Salem, OR - Claire Warthen scored in the 67th minute to tie the match with the University of Puget Sound, but the Loggers scored with just under three minutes left to play to claim the 2-1 victory over the Bearcats.  The loss snapped Willamette's four-game winning streak. Nina Krassner-Cybulski's streak of seven consecutive games with a goal was snapped, but she did contribute to the Bearcat scoring by providing the assist on Warthen's goal.

The second meeting between these two teams started much like the first with neither team being able to find the back of the net in the first half.  The Loggers outshot the Bearcats 7-4 in the first half and 4 to 3 on goal.

Puget Sound was able to break through onto the scoreboard in the 53rd minute on goal by Zoe Fowler.  Fowler had scored the tying goal in the teams' first match-up in Tacoma and this time gave the Loggers the lead.  The Bearcats were the ones to fight back this time and the goal by Warthen off the assist by Krassner-Cybulski tied the game at 1-1 with just over twenty minutes to play.

Each team had chances to score in that final twenty minutes, but it was Puget Sound who took the lead on a Kya Scott shot that was taken from the left side and into the upper right corner of the goal over the outstretched arms of Bearcats' goalkeeper Sam Borngasser.

Warthen led Willamette in shots on the afternoon with three.  For the match, Puget Sound outshot the Bearcats 17-9 and 9-6 on goal.  Borngasser made six saves in net.

The next match for Women's Soccer is at home on Sunday, October 20th, at 2:45 pm vs Pacific Lutheran University.
