(WOMEN'S TENNIS) SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- The Willamette University women's tennis team lost at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, 8-1, on Tuesday, March 27. WU's only victory was earned by Alaine Anderson (Jr., Santa Ana, CA/Foothills HS) at the #2 singles position, as she defeated Krista Melish, 7-5, 6-1. The Bearcats fell to 3-10 on the season, while Trinity evened its record at 8-8.
At #1 singles, Alicia Hunt of Trinity defeated Tiffany Kam (Jr., Pearl City, HI/Punahou HS), 6-2,6-3. Hunt combined with Renae Wright for an 8-3 victory at #1 doubles over Willamette's team of Kam and Anderson. The Bearcats' #2 doubles team of Abby Funabiki (So., Pullman, WA/Pullman HS) and Alyssa Morrison (Fr., Anacortes, WA/Anacortes HS) provided a strong challenge to Cayleigh Simpson and Heather Naeher of Schreiner, before Simpson and Naeher prevailed, 8-5.
Willamette has added a match against Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas, on Wednesday, March 28. It will be Willamette's final match before returning to Oregon for a match at Pacific University on Friday, March 30 and a home match against Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday, March 31.
