Willamette Falls to Linfield, 8-1

(WOMEN'S TENNIS) McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield College improved to 4-0 in the Northwest Conference by defeating Willamette University, 8-1, on Sunday, March 4 at the Linfield Tennis Center. The Wildcats, who have won five consecutive NWC titles, improved to 4-1 overall and to 4-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 2-6, including 2-4 in the NWC.

Willamette's lone victory was achieved by Alyssa Morrison (Fr., Anacortes, WA/Anacortes HS) at #5 singles. Morrison defeated Molly Nelson, 6-2, 6-4.

Linfield swept the doubles matches, but needed a tie-breaker before winning a solid battle at #3 doubles. Linfield's Kelil Sides and Molly Nelson slipped past WU's team of Morrison and Abby Funabiki (So., Pullman, WA/Pullman HS), 9-8 (11-9). All of the singles matchs, including Morrison's win at #5, were decided in straight sets.

The Bearcats return to the courts on Friday, March 9, when they will host George Fox University at the Willamette University Tennis Courts. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. (PST).
