Willamette Sweeps Doubles on Way to 6-3 Victory over George Fox

(WOMEN'S TENNIS) SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University swept the three doubles matches and won three of six singles matches, as the Bearcats defeated visiting George Fox University, 6-3, in Northwest Conference women's tennis action at the Courthouse Tennis Club on Friday, March 9. Willamette improved to 3-6 overall, including 3-4 in the NWC. The Bruins fell to 1-6 overall, 1-5 in the conference.

Susan Butler (Sr., Boise, ID/Boise HS) combined with Alaine Anderson (Jr., Santa Ana, CA/Foothills HS) to win #1 doubles over GFU's team of Valerie Ring and Lindsay Hagler, 8-3. Butler also won #1 singles, as she defeated Ring in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. In addition to Butler's victory, Willamette also won #2 and #6 singles. George Fox claimed wins at #3, #4, and #5 singles.

The Bearcats remain at home on Saturday, March 10 to take on the University of Puget Sound. The match is scheduled to be played at the Willamette University Tennis Courts at 11 a.m. (PST). Weather conditions may force a delayed start at 1 p.m. or cause the match to be moved indoors at 4 p.m. at the Courthouse Tennis Club.
