Top-Seeded Linfield Defeats Bearcats at NWC Tournament

McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield College, which went 12-0 in the Northwest Conference during the regular season, defeated Willamette University in the semifinal round of the 2012 NWC Women's Tennis Tournament, 5-0, at the Linfield Tennis Center on Saturday, April 21.

The Wildcats, ranked #30 in NCAA Division III and #7 in the West Region, improved to 13-4 on the season and advanced into the final match of the tournament. The Wildcats will take on Whitman College in the final on Sunday, April 22 at 10 a.m. (PDT), with the winner receiving the NWC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Whitman defeated Whitworth, 5-0, in the other semifinal match.

Willamette, ranked #14 in the West Region, ended its season with a 7-10 record.

Linfield won all three doubles matches and then sealed up the team victory with triumphs at #1 and #2 singles. Once the overall winner was determined the remaining singles matches ended unfinished.

Emily Bee won the first set at #4 singles, 7-5, and was tied 2-2 in the second set, when Linfield clinched the overall match.
