WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- The Willamette University women's tennis team competed at the first day of the USTA/ITA Northwest Small College Championships at Whitman College on Saturday, Sept. 22. Freshman Rachel Heringer advance to the second round in singles and combined with sophomore Denise Poltavski to reach the second round in doubles.
The Northwest Regional will continue on Sunday, Sept. 23 and Monday, Sept. 24. Winners of the singles and doubles brackets will advance to the USTA/ITA Small College National Championships later this fall.

Emily Funabiki dropped a very close match to Gretchen Jernstedt in singles. Jernstedt won in a super tie-breaker, 6-4, 6-7 (8-10), 10-6.
