Poltavski is Named NWC Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week

Achieves 2-0 record in Singles and 2-0 record in Doubles

SALEM, ORE. -- Denise Poltavski (So., Woodland Hills, CA/El Camino Real HS) of Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in matches played on Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23. Poltavski went 2-0 at #1 singles and 2-0 at #1 doubles during the week.

Against Lewis & Clark College on Friday, Poltavski rallied to defeat Aurora Garrison on a highly-competitive and entertaining singles match, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-7). On Saturday at Pacific Lutheran University, Poltavski downed Samantha Lund, 7-6, 6-1.

In addition, she teamed with Sabrina Gutierrez (Jr., Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park HS) to earn victories in doubles against Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran. Poltavski and Gutierrez outscored Garrison and Gillian Lowe of L&C, 8-6, and defeated PLU's top team of Lund and Payton McGriff, 8-1.

Willamette lost both team matches, as the Pioneers and the Lutes each won 6-3.

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, March 1 with a match at George Fox University, starting at 3:30 p.m. (PST). WU will return home to take on Linfield College on Saturday, March 2 at the Courthouse Tennis Center, with match time set for 12:30 p.m.

Denise Poltavski went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles last weekend.
