SALEM, Ore. -- Whitman College, ranked #25 in NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), downed Willamette University, 9-0, in women's tennis on Saturday, March 12 at the Courthouse Tennis Center. Whitman upped its record to 6-5 overall, including 5-1 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 0-6 on the season, 0-6 in the NWC.
The #1 singles match was a solid battle between Jenna Dobrin of Whitman and Mikaila Smith (So., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS) of Willamette. Dobrin held off Smith in the first set, 6-4, and then won the second set, 6-3.
At #6 singles, Jana Klages-Miller of Whitman won the first set 6-3 over Noemi Cruz-Cruz (So., Galt, CA/Liberty Ranch HS). Klages-Miller was victorious in the match after taking the second set, 6-0.
Hanna Greenberg and Mary Hill won #1 doubles for the Missionaries. They defeated Smith and Alexis Gjurasic (Fr., Olympia, WA/Capital HS), 8-1.
Willamette will play again on Sunday (March 13) at the Courthouse Tennis Center. The Bearcats will be competing against Whitworth University. Match time is set for 10 a.m. (PDT).
