NAMPA, Idaho -- College of Idaho downed Willamette University, 9-0, in a non-conference women's tennis match on Sunday, March 20. The teams competed indoors at the at River City Racquet Club.
The Lady Yotes improved to 4-6 on the season. Willamette dropped to 0-10.
College of Idaho took an early lead with wins in all three doubles matches. The closest battle was at #1 doubles, where Erin Huffman and Hailey Boyd held off Mikaila Smith (So., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS) and Alexis Gjurasic (Fr., Olympia, WA/Capital HS), 8-5.
At #2 doubles, Allie Boyd and Megan Huffman won for the Lady Yotes against WU's team of Hannah Andres (Fr., Sammamish, WA/Skyline HS) and Rachel Kong (Fr., Hayward, CA/Castro Valley HS), 8-2. The #3 doubles match went to Laura Humphresy and Vanessa Almarez from College of Idaho, who defeated Katie Adams (So., McLean, VA/American International School) and Allie DiPasquale (Fr., Seattle, WA/Seattle Academy).
Huffman edged out Smith at #1 singles, including a tie-breaker victory in the first set. Huffman won, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. At #2 singles, Boyd downed Andres in a close first set, 6-4, before completing a two-set sweep with a 6-2 win.
Willamette will return to action on Thursday, March 31 with an exhibition match against Spokane Community College. Match time is set for 2 p.m. (PDT) at the WU Tennis Courts.
