Linfield, Ranked #36, Registers Women's Tennis Victory over Bearcats

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The Linfield College womens' tennis team, ranked #36 in NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), improved to 11-4 with a 9-0 victory over Willamette University in a Northwest Conference match at the Linfield Tennis Center. The Wildcats, who are ranked #8 in the West Region, upped their NWC record to 8-2. Willamette dropped to 0-14 overall, 0-11 in the NWC.

Linfield's top doubles team of Ella Riddle and Elsa Harris took on Mikaila Smith (So., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS) and Alexis Gjurasic (Fr., Olympia, WA/Capital HS) in a competitive match to begin the day. Riddle and Harris held off Smith and Gjurasic, 8-4.

Winning at #2 doubles for the Wildcats were Marisa Doveri and Basia Kopecka. Sierra Lemon and Courtney Mostul of Linfield won #3 doubles.

Riddle, ranked #22 in the nation in NCAA Division III in singles, defeated Smith in the #1 singles match, 6-0, 6-1. The Wildcats also claimed straight-set victories from #2 singles through #6 singles.

The Bearcats will conclude the season with an NWC match at Pacific University on Sunday, April 17. Match time in Forest Grove, Oregon, is scheduled for 1 p.m. (PDT).
