McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The Willamette University women's tennis team participated in the first day of the Willamette Valley Four-Way on Saturday, Sept. 7 on the Linfield College campus. The day's schedule featured one round of doubles competition and two round of singles action.
Three doubles teams played for the Bearcats. Robin Pashek (Jr., The Dalles, OR/The Dalles-Wahtonka HS) and Alyssa Oberg (Sr., Roseville, CA/Oakmont HS) of WU fell to Danielle Brown and Olivia Morris from George Fox University, 8-4.
Willamette's team of Paisley Lieske (Fy., Seattle, WA/Vashon Island HS) and Rebecca Griffith (Fy., Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain HS) were defeated by Kailei Eustis and Megan Meatte of Pacific University, 8-2. Yulia Heggestad (Fy., Blue Hill, ME/George Stevens Academy) and Analiese Terrazas (Fy., Santa Paula, CA/Santa Paula HS) were downed by Alyssa Byde and Emily McDonald of GFU, 8-0.
Pashek and Oberg also competed in singles. In the first round, Sarah Sweet from Linfield outlasted Pashek, 7-5, 6-3. Also in the first round, Megan Wilks downed Oberg, 6-0, 6-. In the second round, Pashek pushed Michelle Ly of Linfield into a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set, before Ly prevailed, 7-5, 3-6, 10-6. The second round also included Olivia Morris from GFU defeating Oberg, 6-1, 6-2.
Action at the Willamette Valley Four-Way will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 8, with action starting at 8 a.m. (PDT). Sunday's schedule includes two rounds of doubles.
