Turner Registers First Collegiate Win by Defeating Harper of Lewis & Clark

SALEM, Ore. -- McKenna Turner (Fy., Junction City, OR/Junction City HS) of Willamette University picked up her first collegiate win in a super tie-breaker over Julia Rohner of Lewis & Clark College at #6 singles on Sunday, March 28 at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club. Turner grabbed the first set and Rohner won the second set, before Turner took the super tie-breaker for a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 triumph. The Pioneers of L&C won the team match, 8-1.

Lewis & Clark advanced its record to 4-2 on the season, 3-1 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats ended the match at 0-4 overall, 1-3 in the NWC.

Rachael Rice of L&C defeated Sarah Dean (Sr., Boise, ID/Timberline HS) of WU at #1 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Madelyn Landerfelt earned a victory for the Pioneers against Siena Ginsburg (Sr., Bend, OR/Summit HS) of Willamette at #2 singles, 7-5, 6-3. Also winning for L&C during the singles matches were Natalie Kowal at #3, Kate Stratton at #4, and Cassandra Harper at #5.

The Pioneers were victorious in all three doubles matches. At #1 doubles, Kowal and Maca Vives downed Dean and Ginsburg, 8-1.

Willamette will host Pacific University in two matches on Saturday, April 3. The first match is scheduled for 11 a.m. (PDT) and the second match will follow at 2:30 p.m.
