Groener Plays Second Round in Singles Consolation Bracket at ITA Regional

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Anika Groener (Fy., Bend, OR/Summit HS) of Willamette University played in the second round of the singles consolation bracket at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northwest Regional Championships on Sunday, Sept. 26. The tournament is hosted by George Fox University.

Groener's opponent on Sunday was Arielle Bloom from Lewis & Clark College. Bloom won the match, which featured a single pro-set, 8-4. Bloom was later defeated by Hannah Plank of Whitworth University in the quarterfinals of the singles consolation bracket.

The ITA Northwest Regional will conclude on Monday, Sept. 27. The Willamette women's tennis team is not scheduled to compete in any additional matches during the tournament. Willamette will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 2 and Sunday, Oct. 3 in Tacoma, Washington, with one non-conference match each day against the University of Puget Sound. Both matches will start at 1 p.m. (PDT).
