SALEM, Ore. -- Richelle Suzuki (Fy., Mililani, HI/Mililani HS) of Willamette University took Brenna Vanderyacht from George Fox University into a super tie-breaker at #2 singles before Vanderyacht prevailed during a Northwest Conference women's tennis match, on Sunday, March 13 at the Salem Tennis and Swim Club. Vanderyacht outlasted Suzuki, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.

George Fox defeated the Bearcats, 9-0. The win upped GFU's record to 6-4 on the season, as the Bruins improved to 2-2 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 0-3 overall and to 0-2 in the NWC.

The Bruins won all three doubles matches. At #1 doubles, Olivia Morris and Danielle Brown downed Anika Groener (Fy., Bend, OR/Summit HS) and Suzuki, 8-2. In the #2 doubles match, Cassey Hitch and Kalli Wiker of GFU defeated Camille Gibney (Sr., La Crescenta, CA/Crescenta Valley HS) and McKenna Turner (So., Junction City, OR/Junction City HS) of WU, 8-2. Elli Mangan and Emily McDonald of GFU won #3 doubles.

Although the #2 singles match between Suzuki and Vaneryacht stretched into a super tie-breaker, all of the other singles matches were won by the Bruins in straight sets.

Willamette will not play again until Saturday, April 2, when the Bearcats will host Linfield University. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m. (PDT).
