Suzuki Wins #2 Singles in a Super Tie-Breaker as Bearcats Fall to Loggers

TACOMA, Wash. -- Richelle Suzuki (Fy., Mililani, HI/Mililani HS) of Willamette University outlasted Avery Honaker from the University of Puget Sound in a super tie-breaker to win #2 singles during the Northwest Conference match between the Bearcats and the Loggers on Sunday, April 10 at the PS Tennis Pavilion. The super tie-breaker was played after Suzuki and Honaker split the first two sets. Suzuki won the match with Honaker, 6-2, 0-6, 10-7. Puget Sound defeated the Bearcats in the overall match, 8-1.

The Loggers improved to 4-4 on the season, 2-3 in the NWC. Willamette ended the match at 0-7 overall, 0-6 in the NWC.

Puget Sound won all three doubles matches, including an 8-1 win by Andie Machida and Paige Shinall at the #1 position against Anika Groener (Fy., Bend, OR/Summit HS) and Suzuki of Willamette. Also earning wins for PS during the doubles competition were Honaker and Schneidman at #2 doubles and Hyla Chatham and Marissa Perez at #3 doubles.

Winners in singles for the Loggers were Machida at #1, Shinall at #3, Schneidman at #4, Chatham at #5, and Libby Stroup at #6.

The Bearcats will be back in action on Friday, April 15 against Whitworth University at the WU Tennis Complex in Salem, Oregon. Match time is set for 3 p.m. (PDT).
