
Salem, Ore. - Willamette Women's Tennis won a hard-fought match at home against the University of Puget Sound, 4-3. The Bearcats won the doubles point, and then split the singles matches for the victory. With the match tied 3-3, Alicia Sola battled back after losing the opening set to defeat Zoe Hughes 5-7, 7-6(1), 6-4 and get the win for the Bearcats.
Willamette won the double point after Alexa de Crinis and Ruby Thompson defeated the UPS team by a score of 6-4. After Sofia Spencer and Marie Tarrab lost their match 7-5, Eva Lief and Richelle Suzuki clinched the point for the Bearcats by winning the final three games at #2 Doubles to win 7-5.
De Crinis won again at #1 Singles, beating Kaylee Yamada 6-2, 6-3. The other win in singles for the Bearcats came at #4 Singles from Sofia Spencer who defeated Hyla Chatham 6-2, 6-1, setting up the final match at #6 singles, ultimately won by Sola.
The next match for the Bearcats will be on Sunday, February 23rd at Whitworth University. The match is scheduled to start at 10:00 am.
