Salem, Ore. - The Willamette Bearcats women's tennis team suffered a tough 7-0 loss against the Pacific Boxers. While the team fought hard in several matches, Pacific proved too strong, ultimately sweeping all doubles and singles contests.
The doubles competition saw Pacific take an early lead, securing all three points. Alexa de Crinis and Ruby Thompson put up a valiant fight in the number one doubles match against Cassidy Binder and Chloe Takahashi, but ultimately fell 6-4. Similar close battles were fought by Richelle Suzuki and Eva Lief, and Marie Tarrab and Sofia Spencer, but the Boxers ended up taking all three doubles matches.
The singles matches followed a similar pattern, with Pacific's depth proving difficult for the Bearcats to overcome. While several matches were closely contested, Pacific's consistent play and aggressive style ultimately prevailed. Number four singles saw a particularly hard-fought battle, with Sofia Spencer pushing Tiara Yeung to a thrilling three-set match that ended with a final tiebreak, 10-4, going in Pacific's favor.
Despite the loss, there were positive moments for the Bearcats. The team showed impressive resilience and determination throughout the match, exhibiting their strong fighting spirit
The Bearcats will look to bounce back as they prepare for their upcoming matches. Willamette hosts George Fox University on Saturday, March 8th, and travels to take on Linfield University on Sunday, March 9th.
