Wingo Wins 800, One of Five Wins for Women's Track at Willamette Invite

Salem, Ore. - Willamette University hosted its annual Willamette Track & Field Invitational on Saturday and the women's team came away with five individual wins and several top three finishes across the track and field events.  The Bearcats dominated the hurdle events, taking four of the top five places in the 100m Hurdles and sweeping the top three spots in the 400m Hurdles.

Katherine Thornton and Mashani Coleman were double winners on the track with Thornton winning the 100m Hurdles and Coleman taking first in the 400m Hurdles, while the duo partnered with Kenzie Lee and Ella Thompson to win the 4x100m Relay.  Katie Wingo was the other winner on the track in the 800m Run and Tenley Grant won the Hammer Throw with a distance of 48.46.  

Other top finishers on the track for the Bearcats were Morgan Shaw in the 3000m Steeplechase (2nd), Zoe Heino in the 5000m (3rd), and Anna Bikle in the 1500m (6th).  As mentioned before, the Bearcats took several of the top places in the hurdles.  After Thornton in the 100m Hurdles, Willamette took third (Erica Snyder), fourth (Sage Miller), and fifth (Juniper Ammirati).  Thornton followed right behind Coleman in the 400m Hurdles to take second place and was followed closely behind in third place by Katie Briggs.

In the field events, in addition to Grant's win in the Hammer, she also finished third in the Shot Put.  A part of the winning relay team on the track, Ella Thompson took second place in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump, followed in third place by teammate Amanda McArthur in the Triple Jump and Janae Howard in the Long Jump.

Kaiona Apio finished second in the Javelin with a throw of 36.35m and Whitley Stepp took third in the High Jump by clearing 1.56m.  Other top performers for Willamette were Olivia Jacobson who took fourth in the Discus and Henri Osborne who placed fifth in the Shot Put.  

Willamette's next meet is scheduled for Saturday, April 5th, at Linfield University.
